Individual Rights in The Covid19 Era

---

It seems that certain rights had already lost their strength in the Covid19 era. Covid19 is by far the most important event that has happened worldwide in the modern era

Many lives have been lost everywhere; economies are falling apart, and countries have been in lockdown for months. When there is chaos everywhere, what happens when there is a solution that requires acceptance from the taker?

That is the Covid19 vaccine, “the solution for this chaos”. Every country is trying to get a hold of the different vaccines, yet so far there are a lot of people who are skeptical to try any vaccine because they feel they would be the subjects of this worldwide experiment.

As a disclosure, I tried the Pfizer vaccine, and as of today, I have not had any side effects. I had the opportunity to have the vaccine thanks to my job. I work as a healthcare paralegal, and when the opportunity presented, I did not hesitate to take it. However, there are a lot of people that they do not want to try the vaccine, and who eventually are going to get discriminated because of the possibility of contagion

I read a few days ago in The New York Times that some countries are considering the possibility of issuing a Covid19 Pass or Covid19 Passport, this can be something like an ID or an App. I also heard on the radio that students in NYC would not get back to school until “all” the teachers get vaccinated. And just today, is being all over the news that Daniel Trump’s supporters do not want to try the vaccine. All of this led me to think “Is the Covid19 vaccine the next factor that separates people apart?”. I believe so.

Soon we need to expect discrimination towards people that do not consent to take the vaccine. Countries are going to require people to be vaccinated as per public health policy. This factor might be important while traveling or to keep a job. I can envision employers requiring employees to be vaccinated for certain jobs, as well as people losing their jobs because they are afraid too afraid to try the vaccine, either, because their religion does not accept it, or because another believe.

Clashes between individual rights and public health policy would arise. I can see landlords requiring tenants to be vaccinated, as public buildings and crowded spaces requiring it. This is the Covid19 era, where deaths are still counting, and wellbeing has become a top priority. We will see how this situation develops but there is far more ahead in the legal field to consider as this situation continues. Let me know what you think of this in the comments below.
