In the spotlight: Fieldfisher X, the new legal tech unit

The reality of legal tech is hitting the legal sector hard. Fieldfisher is betting on technology by creating a new legal tech unit based in Berlin: Fieldfisher X

This new team will be led by Jan Wildhirth, the new legal operations and technology partner. He will be joined by litigation and IP specialist Philipp Plog and dispute resolution partner Jonas Mark.

This new department will assist the firm's clients, whether private or public entities, in relation to mass litigation within the German jurisdiction in different matters such as antitrust, data disclosure, among others.

Fieldfisher X will also provide support to clients in adapting to new data protection regulations and will provide legal analysis, technical management and strategy assistance. It will also provide automation tools that will enable documents and other files to be analysed quickly.

This new department comes at a time when the risk of cyber-attacks and adapting to complex technological regulations are the order of the day in the legal sector. Firms are also facing mass claims, so the use of digital tools is key.

Jan Wildhirth is a lawyer with a long track record. He also has a background in legal tech entrepreneurship. He has recently landed as a partner at Fieldfisher and has been entrusted to lead this new team that will set a precedent in the firm

Apart from Wildhirth, Plog and Mark, Fieldfisher X will be supported by other lawyers, software developers, data specialists and project managers, who will collaborate with relevant legal departments such as international litigation and others.

"Fieldfisher X is a radical step for Fieldfisher and for the mass litigation market in Germany. We are not just creating an in-house centre of excellence, but a new entity that will work directly with clients and actively engage with the market," explained Wildhirth.
