Chambers: Fieldfisher awarded again as a Band 1 law firm in the Capital Markets ranking

The firm's equity capital markets team has secured its top ranking for Capital Markets: AIM in the Chambers UK 2021 guide for another year and is placed second overall by number of AIM-listed clients in the Q4 2020 AIM Advisers Rankings Guide.

Fieldfisher has cemented its reputation as a leading legal adviser to UK-listed growth companies for another year, retaining its Band 1 ranking in the Capital Markets: AIM category of the Chambers UK 2021 Guide for the 11th consecutive year.

The firm is recognised as a leader the small-to-mid cap equity capital markets thanks to its strong sector expertise, depth and breadth of experience and its commitment to client service.

Fieldfisher has the second-largest number of AIM-listed clients of any UK law firm, according to the latest AIM Advisers Rankings Guide and maintains a Tier 2 ranking for Equity Capital Markets – Low-Mid Cap in the Legal 500 guide.

Chambers describes the Fieldfisher ECM team as:

"[A] well-regarded department offering valued advice across numerous sectors, for a client base composed of NOMADs, major corporations and brokers. Regularly instructed to act on sophisticated AIM IPOs, secondary offerings, takeovers and restructurings. Particularly strong in the energy and natural resources sector, with other notable expertise in the healthcare and tech industries. Advises groups based in the UK and elsewhere, with notable recent work advising clients from the CIS region".

"Fieldfisher acts for a high number of AIM-listed companies and it also generates a strong flow of work from nominated advisers and brokers (…) the group handled some of the largest fundraisings seen in the oil and gas sector, and was notably active in work involving the life sciences and energy and natural resources industries", notes Legal 500.

Fieldfisher's capital markets team has the most ranked individuals in Chambers of any firm (five) and have two of the four individuals ranked in Band 1 (Anthony Brockbank and Dominic Gurney-Champion).

Anthony Brockbank is recognised as a "formidable lawyer" and notable practitioner (Chambers), and a leading individual (Legal 500), while practice head Neil Matthews is credited for his 20+ years of equity capital markets experience, advising on UK and European transactions (Legal 500).

Brad Isaac is described as a "respected capital markets lawyer" (Chambers) and is noted for being "very approachable, knowledgeable and commercial" (Legal 500).

Dominic Gurney-Champion is credited as one of the team's "key lawyers" (Legal 500), thanks to his wide-ranging corporate practice and is described by clients as "one of the best lawyers in his field" (Chambers), while George Cotter is commended for being "routinely called upon to represent clients in a wide range of AIM matters" (Chambers).

Other key lawyers – Manchester partner David Bowcock, who is regarded as a leading capital markets lawyer in the North West, and new London partner Ed Westhead – are both credited for their integral roles advising on AIM market transactions, including IPOs and fundraisings.
